Our Mission and Vision
Vision statement: To employ or help job-place hundreds of previously incarcerated Campbell County citizens who change the direction of their lives through the support and training of A New Beginning, ultimately reducing the recidivism rate and increasing the skilled workforce.
Mission Statement: To provide a compassionate job and training program for previously incarcerated Campbell County citizens who are willing to take responsibility for themselves, teaching them to make viable choices while striving for success in all aspects of their lives.
Specifically, A New Beginning strives to:
- Provide job and training opportunities to those who are having or will have difficulty obtaining sustainable employment due to being incarcerated
- Reach people immediately after release
- Offer a paid training program to these participants, allowing them to immediately begin making more than minimum wage while giving them intense and specified training in a skill or trade that will be desirable to employers in the community
- Provide resources for participants’ immediate basic needs such as food, clothing, housing, and continue on with money management/paying off debt, education goals, job training, and finding a lucrative job in the community
- Pair participants with caring individuals such as a case manager, addiction counselor, family/marriage counselor, mentor, and others as needed to provide support and valuable life skills necessary to their success
- Require accountability to help participants learn responsibility as contributing members of society
- Help participants understand their worth and find a renewed purpose
- Provide a compassionate program to change the direction of lives in our community
- Place participants in long-term careers that help sustain a healthy living style and prevent return to harmful behaviors
Long-term economic and community effects:
A New Beginning’s long-term goal is to drastically reduce the recidivism rate while producing an increased number of skilled and reliable workers, not only making our community safer, but making a stronger economy and making it more attractive to new industry.
Our Beginning: Changing the Direction of Lives in Our Community
Two years ago, A New Beginning was simply an idea. Founder Tony Simpson was introduced to jail ministry and felt moved to take action against the problems facing his home county. In August 2016, the vision for reducing the recidivism rate and increasing the skilled workforce started to take shape with the charter for A New Beginning 501c3, offering a job, trade-skills training, and long-term career opportunities to the previously incarcerated. A New Beginning would welcome, accept, love, help heal, strengthen, and empower its participants. In 2017, Tony met Dave and Stacy Bosch, whose vision aligned with his for making a difference in Campbell County. Tony hired Dave and Stacy as Director and Assistant Director of the program, and in June 2017, they began the paperwork and detailed policies. In August 2017, the first A New Beginning participants began the program. The vision became reality.
A New Beginning will always be a “work in progress” because there will always be more work to be done and new opportunities and demands. The immediate goal is to assure that the previously incarcerated have suitable food, clothing, and shelter that will allow them to begin changing the direction of their lives. A New Beginning will offer financial training, marriage/family counseling, addiction/recovery counseling and meetings, and life skills that will allow them to be part of a NEW statistic – a drastically decreased recidivism rate and an improved work force in our community.
Our Ten Driving Values
1. FRESH START OUTLOOK
A New Beginning believes that every participant needs a true second chance (which for many may actually be their first legitimate chance). We will treat every person with respect, regardless of background or personal history. A New Beginning strives to equip the participant to achieve their full potential. We believe that people can change, dignity can be restored, and as a result society will reap bountifully.
2. SERVANT LEADER MENTALITY
Leadership comes with the principal responsibility to serve others. A New Beginning believes the contributions we make in the lives of others are far more important than our own accomplishments. We will lead by example with humility at the sacrifice of personal glory. A New Beginning exists because of our desire to serve everyone we meet, especially our participants, executives, partners, donors, and the community at large.
We are committed to service in love. A New Beginning’s staff and leaders will be patient and kind, never envious, boastful, or rude. We will not seek our own way nor be easily provoked; rather, we will bear all things and endure all things. Leading with love, we will rejoice in the truth and always seek out the best in others.
We embrace a pioneering spirit and constantly seek innovation and improvement in our efforts to help others. A New Beginning expects dramatic change. We are committed to seeing beyond the current perception, and even current reality, to break stereotypes and shape new futures.
We believe that without accountability, neither our participants nor the executives with whom we work will be changed by the program. A New Beginning will do everything in our power to help our participants succeed in life, but we provide only opportunities and tools; participants must want to change. Consequently, A New Beginning only commits time and resources to those who demonstrate a desire to help themselves. A New Beginning enforces a strict accountability program with its participants. Our volunteers and employees will likewise be held to a high standard of accountability, being required to take ownership of their initiatives and follow through with their commitments.
We model and require complete integrity in all our relationships and endeavors. Integrity means more than simply the absence of deception; it means we are completely forthright in all our dealings. We say what needs to be said, not simply what people want to hear. We are truthful with ourselves, listening attentively to feedback from others as they speak into our lives, correct us, and reveal to us our blind spots.
We place emphasis on execution: the ability to get things done. A New Beginning expects to deliver outstanding and timely results. Big thoughts don’t matter if they are not turned into action. Self-discipline is a core element of our organization’s culture. We sweat the small stuff. We hire people with a strong track record of successful execution.

10. WISE STEWARDSHIP
We are committed to the mentality of a steward: someone entrusted with another’s wealth or property and charged with the responsibility of managing it in the owner’s best interest. A New Beginning will apply donor funds as promised. We are committed to being a lean organization, and as a staff, we are also committed to modest salary and expense levels. We use funds intelligently, efficiently, and strategically to achieve maximum benefit for all who serve.
